Holistic healing treats a person as a whole, not a collection of isolated parts. A labyrinth is a path that leads from a beginning point to a centre. This path is meandering, yet purposeful. Using medicinal plants, I have depicted a labyrinth to represent a holistic journey. The combination of plants each have unique healing properties and are used from a perspective that connects with a person’s mind, body and soul. In our fast-paced society, it’s important to remember to connect to our whole self. I invite you to take time for reflection, peace and growth on a journey to your centre and back out.

This piece was created in response to an Open Call brief from Gwent Arts in Health to make artwork for St Woolos Hospital in Newport. My course peers from the University of South Wales and I made posters and questionnaires relating to the brief and took these to the hospital for staff, patients and visitors to share their experiences based on nature.

I took inspiration from answers given, relating to medicinal properties of plants, personal growth and wellbeing impacted by nature. This led me to explore the holistic properties of plants and the benefits of holistic practice for human beings.
